How to (howto) use Facebook (facebookchat, facebook chat) with Pidgin Instant Messenger

Hi people, If you are wondering how to chat with your friends with Pidgin messenger using the (Jabber/XMPP protocol) on Facebook, here is how you do it:

Log on to Facebook, open a tab in your web browser and go to the Facebook chat webpage.

Next, click on the Pidgin tab and you will be given your facebook chat login details as seen below:

“Go to “Accounts” and select “Manage accounts”.
On the Basic tab, enter the following info:

Protocol: XMPP
Username: my.facebookname
Domain: chat.facebook.com
Resource: Pidgin
Password: Your Facebook Passowrd
Local alias: My Name

Click the Advanced tab, then enter the following information:

Connect port: 5222
Connect server: chat.facebook.com

Go to the Pidgin messenger Accounts tab, click the Manage Accounts  tab, then click the Add tab and choose the ‘Protocol:’Facebook XMMP. Complete the details as shown above.

Note:
If you are receiving the error:

username@chat.facebook.com/Pidgin disabled
Not Authorized

Click the Modify Account tab in Pidgin messenger, then choose to Modify your Facebook account settings. In the Advance tab add the following:

Connect server: chat.facebook.com

Also when you log on to Facebook via your browser (through Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera or Internet Explorer) or through a Facebook application on your mobile phone, it’s better to be consistent with the way in which you log on to Facebook by using your user name instead of your email address that is associated with your Facebook account.

Enjoy..)
